This was Sophies 3rd choice after the following conversation:
"Do we have sorghum flour?"
"Do we have oranges?"
"Do we have malt powder?"
Yes! We used a recipe from the Nesting Project.
2 cups self-rising flour
1 cup Ovaltine
2 1/2 cups buttermilk
Mix dry ingredients together, mix wet ingredients together, mix everything together. Waffleize.
The batter seemed super runny. Don't worry, it will be OK. Once it hit the waffle iron it puffed up beautifully. Sophie was a little disappointed by the subtlety of the flavor.
She expected them to taste like Whoppers. They didn't taste like my favorite malt beverage either.
Probably a good thing at 9:00 a.m. They are a great "plain" waffle without the fuss of beating whites/yolks separately. They will kill your Ovaltine stash quickly though.
After breakfast we headed to Austin for the AFBA food photography workshop and Halloween costume shopping. The Halloween costume shopping was a success. We'll see if my photos improve.
